SOP For Determination of Temperature

Principle

Temperature measurements may be made with any mercury-in-glass thermometer provided it is checked occasionally against a precision thermometer certified by a competent agency.

Apparatus

Beaker

Calibrated thermometer

Procedure

  1. Make measurement with the thermometer immersed directly in the water body, after a period of time sufficient to permit constant reading.
  2. If the measurement of water temperature cannot be carried out directly, carry it out in a sampling bottle. The bottle should have a volume of at least one litre.
  3. Adjust its temperature, to that of the sample water before the measurement.
  4. Do not expose it to heat or direct solar radiation.
  5. Measure temperature of tap water in a bottle through the water flows until a constant reading is obtained.

Calculation

Take 3 reading and Result given after calculation of Mean of thermometer temperature reading.

Safety Guideline

Proper safety & health precaution are taken while doing the analysis by using safety goggles, apron, safety shoes & using fume chamber for fume generating chemicals.
